My Veggie Patch

Writer: Joanne DunnJoanne Dunn

Spoiler Alert: I do not have a scooby-doo

So my husband and I have decided to start a veggie patch this year, we are currently growing (or should I say attempting to grow) leeks, spinach, potatoes, rhubarb, strawberries, a variety of herbs and a few other delights ... and actually it seems to be going quite well despite neither of us not really having a clue about what we are doing.

Watching the garden grow - Jacob's forgotten his wellies again!

So much so, earlier this week a friend came over for lunch and it felt really good to be adding my own leeks and spinach to a fratata I was making. It felt even better when my youngest son Jacob not only ate everything on his plate ... but actually asked for more. It is such a wonderful feeling as a parent to watch your children enjoying nutritious food and knowing they have eaten really well.

Another thing about our veggie patch that has made me feel great is the organic slug control. My older son Henry and his friend have put themselves on pest patrol and can often be seen rooting around the soil picking out slugs, putting them in a bucket and then transferring them to the bushes at the end of our road ... so that we don't hurt them when digging (not actually because he knows they will eat our produce) I'm actually wondering if there is a way I can market his services in our local garden centre ... which might cancel out the need for slug pellets all together in Clutton.

Jacob not quite as brave as Henry in picking up the slugs but he loves to hunt them out!

Anyway I just wanted to share a little update from our relatively new home, the home where I now I have a fully up and running treatment room (in the converted garage next to the house ... which actually is also right next to our veggie patch) Please take a look at my website for my appointment times (which have now been extended) you can book online and please be completely assured that when it comes to gardening (I don't have a scooby doo) but when it comes to Kinesiology I am in my element ... not just with adults, but with Jacob, Henry and Emily sized people as well.
